How You Can Make Me Walk 60 Miles In 3 Days

Nancy would have been 57 today.

Nancy

My stepmom Nancy Skyberg died of breast cancer in 2011. Today would have been her 57th birthday. I miss her and her sense of humor. After she was diagnosed, she kidded with me and my wife, Wendy, that she wouldn't mind meeting another grandkid. The power of suggestion? Elle was born the next July ;)

Nancy was able to see Elle's first birthday, but passed away the following December.

We are walking in Nancy's honor in the 3-Day Komen Walk this November in San Diego.
There are several locations that host this event, but we heard that this is a very picturesque jaunt. Each day we'll walk 20 miles.
San Diego 3-Day Komen

To gain entry to 3-Day Event, each walker is required to raise $2,300 in donations. Obviously, my wife is going to kick my butt at fundraising, but the real reason for you to donate is...

I'm out of shape. Guilt me into doing this.

We've started some training, but I really need the peer pressure to make sure I keep it up. We walked 4 miles on Sunday and we'll gradually work our way up to 18 miles in one day during training. Usually the training begins about 6 months out, but we want to give ourselves enough time to build our stamina. During our training, we will exceed 600 miles in total and we'll have cardio days between the walking days. While any amount is appreciated, anyone who donates $60 or more will get their name on the back of my shirt that I will wear on one of the Event Days. That's less than a dime per training mile!

Thank you for your donations and to those that already donated to Wendy's campaign (I'll include your names, too).
